Objective
The main objective of this project was to:
- Capture the geometry of the room
- Capture the color
- Combine them into a single 3D file
Mechanical Design
The intent of the mechanical design was to create a modular, secure, and easily upgradable housing. It is of original design and was 3D printed. It’s main purpose is to house the electronics as well as pivoting the LIDAR in order to enable 360 depth and RGB capturing.
Geometry
Using the ‘Garmin LIDAR-Lite v3HP’ we are able to capture high precision depth data in a 360 sphere of the room
Color
Using a webcam, images were captured at specified angles and stitched together to form an equirectangular image which could then be projected onto the model.
PCB
PCB was designed in EasyEDA and printed over multiple revisions.
Electronics
Electronics were secured in housing with fan driven ventilation.
